Door to Door Salespeople

FROM: Councilman David Tackett
TO: Residents in the 11th District

July 2, 2008

Dear Community Members,

I want to make you aware about a scam that is being run in parts of New Castle County.

Groups of young men and women have been attempting to sell magazines and other things using deceptive sales tactics.

In particular, they will tell you that they are the grandson/daughter or son/daughter of a neighbor of a community member. They will make up a name or an address that does not exist in the neighborhood. They may also tell you that it is for a good cause, they are selling these items for their school, or that they will earn themselves a trip. None of this is likely to be true.

Door-to-Door sales people are required by law to have a permit and You Can Ask To See It. This is a state law and if you suspect this is a scam, you should ask to see their permit and if they can't produce a copy, (non-profits like girlscouts and schools are not included)

You can call the New Castle County police to report this activity at 573-2800.

Your safety is always a major concern for me,

Regards,

Councilman David L. Tackett
